You might be right! The GAP sales have been waning so some Apple logo jeans might just boost sales at Gap Stores. Don't forget to pick up a mock turtle neck in black.

Actually, (didn't see this mentioned above)Gap is giving away free iTunes music if you try on a pair of jeans. The posters are in the front windows of the stores.

Further the dropping of the dock connector in favor of a USB 2 connector (perhaps mini-USB) would seem a good way to save space and cost, and still satisfy the majority of the market, plus it would allow for direct connection of digital cameras, ala the iPod camera connector, without the add-on hardware. Note that line-out is available via the USB 2 connector of the iPod shuffle, and so such capabilities would not necessarily be lost by such a change and Apple has already shown the willingness to drop firewire with the iPod shuffle - they don't seem to have been hurt by that decision.

There is absolutely no way that Apple will drop the iPod dock connector in favor of a simple USB port. The iPod dock is one of the primary reasons why there is so much third-party support for add-ons for the iPod. Also, I'm fairly certain that you are wrong about the availability of a line out through the iPod shuffle's UBS2 connector,. It's just a data port where an intelligent client can read the song files from the internal shuffle memory (like a disk drive). Thus, I don't believe that it can function as a true (simple) analog audio line out. If what you say is true why hasn't anyone produced a simple and inexpensive USB dongle (cable) that will connect the USB port on the iPod shuffle to the audio line-in on a home stereo receiver? Oh, and I'm not talking about the ability to use the headphone port -- becasue you can connect that to a line-in port.

A Google tie-in is very unlikely with this upcoming announcement, but there have been rumors to that effect all the same, so we shall see soon enough. It would be nifty to perform Google searches for music which would return iTMS results -- with the option to purchase the songs right there on the spot -- from your new wireless iPod?

"...cheaper songs, iPod phone, and ... "
The music ain't gonna get any cheaper; it's only a question of whether Jobs can hold the line. Right now I think he's the one with the most leverage; he's holding the cards and the music industry will not like the alternative to Jobs at this point. Prices will surely go up eventually, but I'm betting Jobs holds the line for now.

I was thinking at first 4 gig iPod Shuffles. And that could be true anyway.
But this statement "Here we go again" seems to imply they're going in a new direction. Something besides just more of the same. They did it to music, and now they're going to do with with video?
If so, I'm ready to buy something! Maybe. But for the life of me, I can't imagine what Apple will do about the size of the screen. And what about HD? They can't be bringing out something that just hooks up to the TV like the iPod Photo did.
So I'm not sure at all. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif And that's probably their goal. To confuse people. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I believe they're buying Apple Corps and will release a Beattles branded iPod with 1000 of their tunes past and present. Maybe $499 a pop.

That would be absolutely awesome. I have been advocating they do that for a while. Put Paul & Ringo on the board fro Christ sake... and use some of that cash.
I also say they buy Universal at the same time.

In reply to:

With all the rumors of 4 MB Flash Memory and the clue of 1000 songs in your pocket, it must be 1000 songs in your tie pin or your broach.

Yeah, a lot of people I know walk around with those. They'd reach more people with 1,000 songs in your nosepin, navel-piercing, or nipple ring.

not really a stranger
