you can set itunes to automatically import a CD when you insert it and also set it to import and eject. that makes importing your CD collection easier and faster.

That's not new, I've been doing that since I got my Mac last November.

"...are you that bothered by the fact that they haven't met your specific needs that you feel the need to let everyone know?"
Hmm, I thought this was a forum whose purpose is in part the exchange of views and opinions. Apparently you are under the impression that my posts are the only ones which can be so characterized. Yes, I have expressed my opinion on iTunes 5 and I have even "gone so far" as to post my view on this in ONE other web site -- a heinous offense to be sure.

It feels more like a dot-something incremental release than the sweeping change I (and many industry pundits) had been speculating about in 5.0

Well, it qualifies as a "dot-something incremental release": 4.9 + 0.1 == 5.

Considering Apple was already distributing iTunes 4.9 (and it's still the featured download in the OS X section of Apple's website) I wonder what you expected them to name this update. 4.95?

Um, I think I've been quite clear that my objection with iTunes 5 is not the version number but the lack of features which one would normally associate with a major release (designated by a new number to the left of the decimal point). And, yes, it's not unheard of for Apple to use version numbers like 4.9.5 -- or have you forgotten the versioning for OS X?
Anyway, I don't want to get bogged down in the question of versioning. My main issue is that I had hoped that between version 4.0 and version 5.0 would have been more significant changes than what has been added during that span of time. It's a modest comment really. I find iTunes to be a very impressive product overall.
"Seems to me what you did is what so many people do who listen too closely to the rumor sites. Get themselves all jazzed up..."
Not at all. I was only reading the wish lists and speculations -- not rumors -- of industry analysts. Moreover, I was assuming that Apple had big plans for the version 5 release because of what this level of versioning usually means.

Right, and the difference between OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.0 == 0.01. So what's your point?

I tend to prefer the finer finish of the iTunes 5 interface over the brushed steel theme; however, with iTunes 5, the sidebar is not visually set off from the main window as much as it was before and there is no longer the ability to grab iTunes by its side borders to move the window -- because there are no such borders any longer.
These things are not progress in my opinion -- but I grant that this is subjective and a matter of taste.

To agree with your last bit, that it is a matter of taste...
I am VERY thankful that iTunes is wasting less of my screen now with interface items that I will seldom, if ever, use...and can't remove from the screen. I hope the design trend continues, as screen space waste is one of the things I really hate about OS X vs earlier OSs like 7-9.

I'm just pleased as punch that they finally released QT 7 for Windows. It is nice to mod my playlists at work too.
Let's get the rumors going with this release. QT 7 is the vehicle that Apple touted for the HD revolution they claimed would start this year. I can't believe that two HD camcorders from Sony is that revolution in hardware. Steve made a comparision between the Sony PSP and iPod sales. Why didn't he mention the #2 MP3 player vendor (Creative)? That would have been more appropriate. I believe Apple has its sights on the PSP because in the short-term that device is a real threat to their high-end iPod sales. HD, games, and music together on the same device is the future. You can't argue anymore the video on a handheld isn't practical as the PSP has created the market and IMHO is running away with it.

Gee... Version 5 is a disappointment, maybe you should ask for your MONEY back, and return it to apple /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
It just looks like to me that it's updated for the phone (Which, since I live in Canada doesn't really do anything for me) and the new features for the store.

This update is lame. The real news story from the keynote was the nano.

Sure this release seems to have interesting new features, yet I'd expect them to be better than they actually are. It seems like most iTunes features once they were introduced that they could be more polished, as what we've come to expect from Apple, yet they seem rushed out.
1) Folders - why the iPod can't use these as well ? It would allow keeping my iPod lists organized as on iTunes, and relief me from using prefix to list that I want to group together (e.g. new songs from different artists). You also can't see nested lists from the iPod preferences. Plus notice how you can't add those "playlist groups" to smart playlists criterions. And what about dragging more than one list at a time to a folder (through multiple selection ?), this is an annoying omission.
EDIT : we can add them to smart playlists criterions, my omission... it is just not obvious since the menu is not organized hierarchically as the source lists.
2) Lyrics is REALLY great, yet I can neither use iTunes nor Spotlight to search songs from its lyrics. Creating smart playlists from lyrics would also be great. Help says lyrics can appear on iPod, yet I can't find more about this anywhere else. Another omission ?
3) iTunes site announced "Display playlist Play Count" and "Display Recently Played playlists", still haven't figured out if I can do this.
Last, some improvements that I really wished for : I expected choosing what playlists to be transferred to my iPod could be made easier. The small preferences window is not good enough for this. Why can't we checkmark lists from the source ? Same for the info window, I expected some kind of palette that gets less in the way than the current dialog (like most OS X apps). Though these two remain unchanged. Do you like them as they are ?

yeah, exactly... for people to exchange views and opinions and so far it seems your only view is that you are upset over the VERSION NUMBER (which when you get down to it is absolutely meaningless).... and i will say it again, of all things to be upset about that shouldn't even be on the list, let alone be your biggest complaint.

i agree with that but i do think however that the visualizer looks much better now without the border on the sides.
