In a British newspaper a couple of months back, it said that Apple were considering changing their OS on new laptops to Windows. I find this highly unlikely, as Apple would have to pay MS a lot in royalties and people that have macs chose them because they did not want windows. However since i already have a powerbook and they do decide to change the OS, would it be possible for me to change to Windows or does Windows software require different hardware? Hope that makes sense to you, any help would be gratefully appreciated.

That's flat out wrong. Apple announced earlier this year that Macs would begin using Intel processors, the most obvious first candidate being the Powerbooks.
This won't impact you until it becomes time to buy new hardware and it'll still be Mac OS X.

OS-X (or whatever they will call their version at the time they ship the intel systems sometime in 2nd or 3rd quarter 2006 best estimate) will STILL be their own operating system. As to windows, it runs already now on macs, but you need to install virtual PC first. It crawls.

Do you have the name of the British newspaper or better, the online article?
