I have some errant menu extras that fail to load when I restart or log out. I need to find the prefs that govern the menu extras and is there a way to force a restart of menu extras?

they should reload if you force quit the finder, unfortunately, it doesn't always work. I'm sorry to say I don't have the answer for you.
I'm not even sure that they should in that situation. They aren't child processes of the Finder.they should reload if you force quit the finder, unfortunately, it doesn't always work. I'm sorry to say I don't have the answer for you.
Killing SystemUIServer should do the trick. I'm not sure where the prefs are stored though (maybe there's a plist for that process? I can't check right now).

Thank you for the answers to my query. I assume I can use activity monitor to quit the process. Do I restart it the same way or will it start automatically?
Also, am I wrong in thinking that Apple weakly handles menu extras? I have had the same problem in Panther. Some menu extras do not reload after a restart or a log in. These include Now Up to Date (there are two menus) and Alias Menus (there are 3 menus that are folders containing alias pointing to programs, folders, and files) It is a hassle to get them back up and running. They stay for a while and then disappear after a restart.
