Keep in mind, the main event for Apple's music presentation was the ROKR.

For what it's worth, the nano was the "official" main event to anyone but the people screaming for an iTunes phone /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif The invitations that Apple sent out showed the "coin pocket" on a pair of jeans with text that implied a new iPod was on the way.

Aren't we all wearing watches that are also PCs? PDAs? OK, well one with a calculator at least? Come on, hands up, is ANYBODY wearing a watch that just tells the time?
... oh yeah, me. My watch tells the time. It doesn't even tell me the date. Just the time. For some reason Fossil can sell these things for $110. Go figure /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Lay off. This man is a genius. Everything should do everything. It makes sense. In fact I just added the snow thrower/deep tunnel boring/food processor/saxophone attachment package to my gasoline/compressed air powered/SUV/mini-cooper/helicopter/washing machine (Which I park it IN my garage/livingroom/kitchen/bathroom/bedroom/recording studio/kitchen/sump pump suite -- you get so many more square feet w.out all those walls..)
Why would anyone want some silly specialized ANYHING just because its simple to use, reliable, performs flawlessly, is fun, doesn't necessitate endless subscription costs locked to a single provider and instead delivers real value for money to the end user?
Get with it people!

Most of you have very good points... There is just one basic problem.. None of you are here and you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the partnership of Motorola, Apple, and Cingular.

In answer to one person's question: "Do ya think mot had any idea of the release of the Nano that day?"
The answer is... No we didn't... They didn't even tells us anything so when Apple released the Nano on the same day that the collaboration was to be released it pissed off more people than it made happy... Zander has every right to be upset... When they released the Nano that day to take over for the mini one thing made perfect sense to most of us...
Why the ROKR had a 100 Song Limit..
We felt it was pretty justified but when they released this Nano that same day.. It really got most of us upset. As if the 100 song limit wasn't enough to help dwindle it's marketing... They had to release a brand new iPod just to clench the deal.. That was a really cheeky thing to do..
You don't partner up with someone and then release something to counter your own partnership the exact same day.. It's just fking tacky...
Other than that the ROKR really isn't a bad phone.. It was never made to replace the iPod or make them obsolete... If you have a lot of music and like having it with you 24/7 then the ROKR isn't for you...
I have one myself and I have never had better reception ever from a phone... The speakers are good and the iTnes ability really is nice... The speed of transfer is bad but hey it's a first effort..
Why the hell does everyone bash this phone? Half of you haven't even tried one? Now that ehy have worked out most of the glitches the phone works and sells fine.. Not comparied to the Nano but hey it does alright...
And most of you that have ROKR's and have problems with it, haven't even called the freaking number to see if it can be easily fixed you just assume you are learned enough to fix the problem yourself...
Who is less mature here? He at least has a good reason to be upset..
Judge not less ye be judged...
I've said what I feel.. The phone could be better and it will..
Thank you

this is what you get when you get a CEO that used to sell sneakers for a living in charge of an electronics company.

Notwithstanding the seeming cluelessness of this specific Zander quote, Ed Zander isn't generally speaking an idiot. In fact the recent rejuvenation of Motorola since 2004 is arguably attributable to his shakeup of management. BTW it's not clear what the reference above to sneakers is about. Prior to Motorola he was the president of Sun Microsystems.
