A few weeks ago I was looking for a driver for the HP LaserJet 2100. I searched the HP website (www.hp.com) and even downloaded the latest GIMP Print driver. Neither did the job properly. When I talked to a HP rep she told me that phone support will cost $35 per call or I could update the printer I owned, as the driver from HP was not working.
I just found another printer driver and thoght I should pass on the information for all those that are looking for an HP driver. The following driver coers a vast number of old HP printers but also covers other makes of printers. Please see the list of supported printers to confirm that your's is supported.

Anyway, in case you haven't figured it out, those drivers are from sourceforge.net, or variants thereof, the same place that the current CUPS-based drivers in OS X come from /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Personally, I don't care how long a post is. Well, maybe I should instead say that if it's useful information, the longer the better!
I would LOVE to find a driver that would make my old Apple Personal Laser Printer work with OS X, so I viewed this post. No joy, but...
I, for one, wish more new people came to the list OFFERING something in good faith. That's rare enough we should APPRECIATE it, and not nitpick. Also, most SUCCESSFUL groups encourage newcomers rather than discourage them.

I monitor these forums for useful information too! I have learned alot from them and other forums over the years, and look at them as a resource, however....
My point was that posting just the link to the drivers was sufficient. THen those of us who wanted/needed to examine the list could have done so at the linked url, and everyone else would not have had to scroll thru an unnecessarily long page for no reason...... ie: a waste of time and space that could have been avoided /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
And FYI, I was NOT trying to discourage a newcomers from posting, but instead to think a little about the information they are about to post, is it enough, or is it too much

Thanks for posting this Shackleton! The expanded list was really helpful to compare to my particular printer. Hopefully, with a usb to parallel cable I'll get the laser printer that I haven't been able to use for a year working.

Ok, i've installed the hpijs and can print using my ibook (running 10.4.3) but.... this is the problem... the first page will print gibberish, some cryptic text then the printer continues to spool for about 5 minutes then actually prints the document. Do you know why this is or what I can do?

I have installed this driver and installed my OfficeJet K80 on my 17" Powerbook G4 running OSX 10.4
I've tried printing from several different applications and no luck. the printer shows up in my printer list and when I hit print I get the "printing" dialogue box. However, the printing job just quits and nothing comes out.
any suggestions?

I thought perhaps this driver might be the answer to my problem, but I still need help. I am trying to get my Mac G4 (running OS10.4.6) to recognize an HP LaserJet 4V (with JetDirect card installed). The printer is running, and self test info shows the JetDirect card, but when I go to Printer Setup the 4v is not shown in the list of available printers, nor can I add it using "more printers". I did install the ghostscript and the hpijs that you cited, but I'm not sure what to do next or if this whole thing is a lost cause.
I also have an HP LaserJet 5si networked in the same way that I have the 4v setup and that one was a problem until I did a clean install of the system. I have also used Fix-a-Mac's "Printer Setup Repair" but still cannot get the Mac to recognize the HP LJ4V.
Any suggestions/words of wisdom?

Press the test button on the jetdirect card - it should print out the configuration. Check that ethertalk is on, and to give yourself IP printing options, check IP address. Is it in the same subnet as your computer - ie, first three parts of the IP address the same like 192.168.1.x?

Thanks for your quick response. I don't see any kind of test button on the jet direct card. It is HP JetDirect 2552B. Do I have to remove it to do a test?
I have previously used the display panel to run/print the self test. Here's some info from the self test. Let me know if other info would be helpful.
IP Address: 192.0.0.192
Subnet Mask: Not specified
Def. Gateway: 192.0.0.192
HP Jetdirect: J2552B
Firmware Version: A.05.05
I have also tried switching the JetDirect card with the (same model) card that is currently in the HP 5si which works. It didn't make a difference. The 4V has only 4MB of Memory, but I don't think that would cause it not to be recognized by the computer.
I have both of these printers connected via a router and a hub using the iPrint adapter that HP recommends and using AppleTalk conncetion. Both are in the same room, with literally identical hook ups and I have tried switching out cables, but only the 5si will work and the 4V is unrecognized.

I use my Apple Personal Laser printer NLT with OS X?
I have it connected through my network using an old Farallon device..whose name and number escapes me at the moment.
Once hooked up, OS X just found it....

Well, downloaded and installed the file from the link, and ta, da, the hp 1100 that I needed was there.
Problem is, nothing new happens after installing.
I do have the correct local IP address of 192.168.1.110, but the add printer dialogue on the screen doesn't ask for which port which the pc's ask for Is this the queue number? Is this necessary for a Mac? All my other pc's print to this networked printer with absolutely no problem.
Are there any settings that I'm missing?
