Hi everyone. I need some video expertise here. I use an aluminum Apple Powerbook G4 (1.33 Ghz, OS 10.4.2.) I don't have a DVD player for my TV, so I have to use my computer. I bought one of those Monster Cable cords they had at an Apple store near me that connects my laptop's DVI-out and headphone jack to the TV's DVI-in and sound inputs.
It worked fine throughout the summer on the TV at my parents house and my TV, but now that I've moved that same TV here to my apartment at school, about half an hour or so into watching a DVD or an AVI on the TV, a big discoloration blotch appears on the television screen. Sometimes the blotch is in the upper lefthand corner, and sometimes it's a big vertical blob along the right side of the screen. It's a 27-inch Sharp TV, if that makes any difference.
The laptop screen remains unchanged, so I'm wondering if I need to change some settings in the Display preferences to make this work. Usually I just use "Detect Displays" and turn on mirroring, which sets the laptop screen resolution at 800x600 (stretched) and the TV screen at 800x600, 60Hz, NTSC. Both screens set to millions of colors. The blotch doesn't show up when I'm playing any game systems or watching cable television (all on different inputs not involving the DVI.) Have I explained my situation well enough for someone to help me out? Should I be worried about damaging my TV? I appreciate any insight you guys can offer. Thanks.
EXCEPT the same spot of the screen is wackily discolored while playing Sonic 2 as part of Sonic Mega Collection on the Gamecube. No other game gets it. I have no explanation for that. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
