Well, the situation is simple: I've got an old Performa 5200/120 in good working condition, and I've been thinking of putting it on the network, at the very least as a file storage, although possibly for storing/distributing a decent size database I maintain. It doesn't have to serve large numbers of people, mainly just myself, quite often directly on it, but I need to have it accessible remotely.
The problem would be the lack of an Ethernet port on it, or anything other than the old ADB (If I recall correctly, anyway) and a dial up modem.
Is there anyway to get Ethernet connected to it, or is it a doomed attempt? I really hate to see a good machine go to waste.
Thanks

at one time, there was an ethernet adapter for the 6200. don't know about the 5200, but my guess would be a yes there is as it was used in many schools.
OWC may be able to help you with this, perhaps some other poster may have more intimate knowledge.
ResNet may give you a bit of help also, but after that, i am out of ideas.

There were three direct options, for adding ethernet to the 5200, and one indirect method.
There were ethernet cards from 3rd party vendors for the LC-PDS slot.
There were ethernet cards from Apple and 3rd parties for the Comm slot.
There were 3rd party ethernet adapters which connected to the SCSI port.
You can also use an AppleTalk-to-Ethernet bridge, connected to the Printer port. It drops your connection speed down to about 2Mb from ethernet's standard 10Mb, but that's still faster than any dial-up connection.
Good luck hunting. I've used and installed all three, let me know if you need any more help when you find a solution.
