I'm considering buying a NewerTechnology miniStack, which you reccommend in your Mac Mini section. I like the number of firewire and USB ports and it seems good value for money. On the other hand, the Mercury Elite-Al is faster although it lacks the hub facility...
But I don't understand why you didn't include the miniStack in the desktop hard drives comparison, only in the MiniMac section? Am I missing something? I'm runnning a 1G powerbook and a cube. Is there a reason why the MiniMac isn't a good choice for non-mini owners?

It's been almost two years since this article appeared. Some of these brands must have improved or degraded their performance. Besides, Seagate is not even mentioned. Still, the comparison tables are quite valuable, thanks...
Here is my update: I've purchased a Maxtor OneTouch III FW400/USB2 hard drive. So far, it is much faster than OneTouch II in your review. I don't have an exactly 1GB file, so I tried copying with 1.33GB and 878MB (bytes) files. On average FW400 gives me about 35 sec/GB for copying to the external and about 20% faster for copying from. This is on par with the good ones in your review. Oh, by the way, USB2 average is about 57 sec/GB when copying to.
