Excellent points on their confusing price points and disc standards..
But I think the analysis wasn't totally wrong to ignore those things. The thing is, is sloppy pricing or not, they have almost (or more than?) 6 months to install a base with no opposition. After that time, they can simplify their price points to compete with Sony, and possibly lower their prices again.
As far as the disc standard goes, I think for most people, the fact these consoles can play movies is just extra gravy. The primary purpose is for games. Gamecube couldn't play ANY kind of movies, yet made a very respectable third place showing...which might have been a second place showing if they cranked out games like res.evil 4 early in the lifecycle...and didn't openly discredit online games.
