Hey, this is my first post and of course, some questions.
Ive been downloading macTV podcasts with some great iPod/iTunes ads on them.. Of course Im gonna put them on my iPod video when it arrives but i would also like to put them on my cell phone. Does anyone know a good app that can convert mpeg4 into 3GP? Also, is there anyway I can just take the audio out of an mpeg4?
Thanks.

Ok man.. Umm lets look at my original post and see what i wrote and then what you wrote..
I asked if there were any APPS meaning APPLICATIONS that I could use. You replied by yes, suggesting an APP (application). I then asked for a free shareware APPLICATION. Last time I checked shareware is an application. I think you might have got confused about P2P (acquistion or limewire). Now... AGAIN, does anyone know a third party APPLICATION (app) that i can use to convert MPEG4 to 3GP and also take the AAC out of an MPEG4? Thanks.

Oh no... I'm not confused.
My point is that you asked for advice for "a good app".
When I provided a name and link for one, you changed the criteria to shareware (which isn't free nor an application, by the way) without even a thank you. And to ask me, "Is it worth it", regarding my response to your request for a good app (did you really think I'd recommend a bad app?) makes it pretty clear that you not only aren't prepared to spend the time to be upfront with what you're asking, you're also not paying attention to the responses you're getting.
So... basically... I was just giving a heads up to others that it's not worth the time to bother responding.
I realize you're new. I realize I'm being abrupt. It's just that unlike most new people to this forum, you came across to me as unfocused, glib and unappreciative of my time.

After seeing this thread, I'd thought I'd subscribe. I'm not trying to be mean by posting this, but the inhouse "expert" seems to be setting a bad example and has several things clearly confused:
1) I get the impression this is a forum for help and advice - I hate that lazy used car salesmen type - "Yeah man - buy the car man because it's g'ud. Trust me y'all, because I says so". Thinking that you've fulfilled others needs in a one-liner does'nt make others wrong. Confusing idleness with high-and-mighty know-how is a common error of a intellectual collector, who make poor teachers. A help forum is'nt about fobbing others off after being exposed as ignorant. It's about informing others of available without harbouring any preconceptions.
2) I happened to bother to look up the word "application" in reference to software. I'll attempt to convey it's meaning and context for your future reference. This definition approximately verbatim from Wikipedia:
"Shareware is a marketing method for software, whereby a trial version is distributed in advance and without payment, as is common for proprietary software. Shareware software is typically obtained free of charge, either by downloading from the internet or on magazine cover-disks. A user tries out the program, and thus shareware has also been known as 'try before you buy', demoware, trialware and by many other names. A shareware program is accompanied by a request for payment, and the software's distribution license often requires such a payment. Payment is often required once a set period of time has elapsed after installation. The term shareware was coined by Bob Wallace to describe his word processor PC-Write in the mid-1980s."
So can an application form a subset of shareware ? Of course it can. The following is the definition (again from Wikipedia):
"Application software is a loosely defined subclass of computer software that employs the capabilities of a computer directly to a task that the user wishes to perform. This should be contrasted with system software which is involved in integrating a computer's various capabilities, but typically does not directly apply them in the performance of tasks that benefit the user. The term application refers to both the application software and its implementation"
Thus clearly shareware CAN form be an application as well and you are thus incorrect in your previous assumption.
4) In my opinion, a better answer to the original question is that several packages are capable of processing and converting 3GP video. Xilisoft make a converter that supports almost all popular video formats including mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4, wmv, mp4, 3gp, mov, rm, dv, yuv, h264 to 3GP file conversion. The Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter application also convert 3GP video file to AVI, MPEG, Divx. Quite a good shareware app, but the limitation is only 2 minutes editing time, I believe.
Another useful application is "ImToo 3GP video Converter" is another shareware application.
Mobile 3GP converter 1.0.0 is another, but I think this one only does 3GP to avi.
Don't think there are many other purpose made apps that will do it
3) The in-house expert would appear to have a self-opinion several notches above everyone else's. You'd do far better and make much less of a public fool of yourself if you were more humble in dishing out info. Please - have a slice of humble pie on me - it's free.
Even new users can contribute a thing or two (Gee - now there's a thought!)

Hehehehe... I also provide a link to a source, indicating it was more than an assumption.
Did you happen to read my link which takes one to the Association of Shareware Professional's definition of shareware?. I'm not sure on what basis you feel my source is wrong and yours is right, nor why you claimed my statement was an assumption when I had a link to the source. Whatever.
I apologize for ruffling your feathers. I did mention previously that I realized I was being abrupt and did acknowledge the poster of the questions as being new.
This isn't a contest, however, to provide the most comprehensive answer. Because many people reply to a question it's common to offer a one liner. Collectively one will get a wide-range of responses. Starting a thread isn't about getting the most complete answer and then not having any one else respond.
You're response regarding a good app was to give a bunch of 'em. That was really nice. Do know, however, that that's not the norm around here.
I never referred to myself as an "expert". Nor did I style myself "veteran" (that is automatically assigned). What I did was try to answer as quickly as possible because this brand new member had just posted his first question, I had an answer, and I posted a response less within 17 minutes after his first question. Rarely will one get a response that quickly, and that partly explains why I gave a one-liner. I was concerned that his first post start getting responses as quickly as possible. And I knew he'd get more.
What happened, however, is that I realized I wasn't dealing with someone who really cared that I, or others, were taking time to answer. For me it felt as if I were dealing with some college kid who was too lazy, or didn't know how, to use Google.

Hello!
There's a program that i have been using that converts virtually everything (except windows media files) to many other files. It's called ffmpegX.
http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
It's free, although after two weeks a message pops up asking you to donate.
It allows MP4 to go to 3gp. Beware - if a file is protected, it won't work.
