We just got a iMac G5 (iSight) with built in iSight web camera. You would think that it has a built in iSight and it will work as an iSight.
Now my daughter wanted to make a video diary but iMovie will not record the built in iSight but if you buy and external iSight iMovie will record.
If you want to use Mercury to connect to the MSN network the camera needs to be recognized by iMovie. (It is said in the Apple forums that you might be able to connect a F/W camera and then remove it in order to get the built in iSight work properly.)
Is it morally (an legally) correct to call the built in camera iSight when it does not function as an iSight?
My daughter is sad and if I feel like a bad dad!
Do you think that Apple will fix this?

Possibly this is just an oversight in programming.
iMovie's coding may only be to look for a firewire camera and the way the internal camera is routed the programming doesn't know it's there and it simply was not thought about when all this came together. Or perhaps it has been but there has not been enough time to get the program up to speed and update it.
Send a complaint to Apple and if they get enough prompting maybe they can add an iMovie update to take the internal camera into consideration.

Thanks!
I actually found that Apple claimed on their homepage that the built in iSight will not work as an external iSight. I did not find anything saying that they will fix this. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Why bother to take the cost putting an iSight in a computer and then not giving it full functionality as its "identical" counter part?
Let's hope that they fix this.
