20g ipod 4th generation Mac to Windows format

Purchased a used ipod found out it was originally set up on a mac the person this is for is using windows
How can I reformat the ipod and erase all data and restore to original format for windows machine changing it from original mac format. And does the itunes program have to be empty with no music.I dont want it to start downloading songs when I plug in Ipod on windows machine.
Please help

Just install the latest iPod Updater on the Windows machine along with iTunes. When you plug in the iPod run the iPod Updater if Windows doesn't prompt you to reformat it. From there, click Restore and the iPod will be formatted for Windows.
