Has anyone tried to use Active X through Virtual PC?
I recently switched to Mac because the "blue screen" on my Compaq was driving me crazy.
I mostly bought my Mac for work. I use Quickbooks Online Edition and I can not use it with my Mac. ARGH!
I want to buy Virtual PC for one reason... so I can access the web to use Quickbooks Online.
Has anyone done this?

The downloads problem is still present for me with some file types. It works with QuickTime set up for mpeg, mov, etc. I have it set to automatically open QT and it works. It doesn't work with Windows Media Player which I have set to open up when downloading wmv files. It still asks me what I want to do. Also have the problem with pdf's. Preview is set as the app to use when downloading pdf's but it still asks me what I want to do. And I do have a Save location set in FF Preferences.

So when can we expect to have a mature, standards-compliant, full-featured (and yet stable and fast) browser -- to say nothing of a full assortment of them to choose from?
The day you make an argument succinctly. rimshotSo when can we expect to have a mature, standards-compliant, full-featured (and yet stable and fast) browser -- to say nothing of a full assortment of them to choose from?

"As for my browser choice, I use Safari most of all. My second choice is Mozilla. Then Internet Explorer (I use this for anonymous browsing since it has none of my stored user names or passwords). Then Firefox. I also have Camino, Netscape, and Opera loaded. In my dock I also keep icons for the Windows versions (through Virtual PC) loaded for testing purposes."
Have you ever seen the look on a casual Windows user when you try to explain why you have seven different browsers on your Mac? Most Windows users think IE is the only browser in existence, period. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have to admit I'm kinda partial to ff. I also have to admit I'm problably insane to be using it still. A couple of weeks ago, it caused the worst crash I've experienced in the last couple of decades; or at least, so it would seem: the app just quit, and when I restarted it, all bookmarks were gone. I switched over to safari, but its bookmarks had vanished too. As I explored some more, I found that all my keychain items, icalendars, address book, mailboxes had vanished. I reported this to 911 or some other macworld forum, but never did figure out what had happened. Has anybody else experienced anything like this?

I wouldn't blame Firefox or any other app for those issues. It sounds to me like you've got some massive directory corruption. If you own Alsoft Disk Warrior RUN IT NOW. If you don't own DIsk Warrior, SHUT DOWN YOUR MAC RIGHT NOW, and tomorrow morning go to your local Apple Store or CompUSA or other Mac reseller and buy Disk Warrior. The next time your Mac starts up it should be from the Disk Warrior CD.

Both browsers can be used side by side. Whenever there is a site that crashes Safari, mostly sites that have java features, FireFox will load them just fine. Or, if there is a site that doesn't support the Mac, Southern CA Edison is a perfect example, FireFox will do just fine (and is actually recommended on the site).
So whatever happened to Netscape? Did they finally die off like IE?

You fail to mention Safaris complete inability to work with Blogger when uploading images. The Java implementation on the Mac side is a sorry situation. Firefox makes it easier to use a Mac on the internet. I still find that I need my PC nearby to do certain things. Apple shouldn't be too embarrassed, since this whole internet thing has only been around 10 or 12 years, and hey, maybe it won't catch on.

A bug I've picked up on with the new release is its failure to display a page counter SSI I have on my home page at chrishutcheson.com. This is a page counter that displays fine in Safari and Opera as well as the previous version of Firefox. This may be a conflict between the Flash content and the rest of the page, as the counter appears fine on other pages.
