The reason I ask is that I used to think that the computer could not sense whether the monitor was on or off and simply sent a signal out whether or not there was a monitor there to receive it.
But then I read that Final Cut Pro (which I use) runs better when the monitor is set a at a scan rate above 60 Hz. So now I also am wondering whether turning the monitor off or on, especially while the computer rendering a long video clip in Final Cut Pro, might cause glitches in the hard drive, similar to the possibility of glitches happening when you simply unplug the computer instead of choosing Shut Down.
