Thank you for your very detailed and well thought analysis supported by fact. Your post was very informative. In another life I also studied the music business, not to get a degree, but so that I would understand how it worked related to a band I was playing in. Thanks again, it was a good refresher for me and I hope others learned as well.

Soon the music industry will be charging by the silence in music, every musician knows that the silence is also part of the composition. Then, the developer of the future: "Silence Dashboard Widget", will be face a hard time, not behind bars, but with a life sentence of complete silence.
