Okay. Someone just give it to me straight.
Do I choose:
a - 20-inch Apple display
b - 23-inch Apple display
c - 24-inch Dell display
To be used for basic desktop publishing (InDesign/Photoshop), your usual web browsing, some games for the kids, iLife, etc.
Running a G4 silver front desktop. 64 MB ram ATYRV card. Heard somewhere that the 23-inch monitors might tax the system more than the 20-inch would.

The apple cinema displays are drop dead gorgeous in my opinion. But if I were in the market for a widescreen monitor I would have to seriously consider the Dell. It has a USB hub (I think 4)composite and S-Video connections as well as the analogue and digital inputs. It is also cheaper than the Apple unit and uses the same Phillips LCD panel. It rotates to portrait and is height adjustable. The only problem I have with it is the Dell badge.
I have heard rumours of an updated Cinema display range at Macworld but I can't find the link I read. Viewsonic also have a range of widescreens coming out in the new year (you guys in the states probably have them already) /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I think the first half of 2006 will be kind on widescreen monitor purchasers as they become more popular and come down in price.
I may be wrong but thats the way I see it. Benq have released an 8ms 20" widescreen but I havent checked it out yet.
Good luck

I like having a 23" monitor - like having it a lot. The extra real estate v. the 20" means I can put palettes on either side of my workspace and leave them up. I prefer one larger monitor to two smaller ones for ease of use. But that's just personal. An ideal setup for me would be a 23" monitor for work and a smaller - 17" or 20" - for email, etc.

Add "d - 20-inch Dell Display". Has same Phillips display module Apple uses, better connectivity, and carries a three-year warranty. If you wall-mount it (VESA), the massive base disappears and the display appears to float above one's desktop...every bit as nice as Apple's for a third (or more) less.
Using Pages one can work two documents (or one in two different applications) with room for dock, folders, etc. also showing.
I have. I like. A lot, Oh yes, and I have no dead pixtels.
