Indeed. Based on the Doom 3 engine, Quake 4 will be liable to push on Mac hardware. I'll be very curious to see how it performs on Intel-based Macs, since, as I understand it, Aspyr is making this one with a "universal" binary that will natively on PowerPC or Intel-based systems.

How will that work exactly? As I understand it, graphics drivers work differently between x86 and ppc platforms. Windows seems to favor directx (which doesn't exist on apple to my knowledge) while we use opengl. Will intel based macs then run off of directx or stick with opengl drivers?
Oh, another question. Q4 should be able to work between platforms right (mac players play against pc users)? I seem to recall quake 3 working between both, and most other games. Isn't that usually the way it goes?
thanks

Just because Apple's switching to Intel processors doesn't change the fact that the Mac OS X operating system is dependent on OpenGL, not DirectX.
Yeah, Quake 4 should be cross-platform networking compatible.

Well, Carmack has always gone the OGL route so conversion has never been necessary. Performance seems much better in Q4 compared to D3 on the PC side so I'd assume it will hold true for the mac version as well.
The redone Q2 DM maps are hawt.
