Maybe the higher-end market will still offer firewire?
As long as vested programs (will in the future) allow usb importing (does any Mac software recognize a camera via USB?) and software control of the camera. (I have only seen this via FireWire) it shouldn't be too big of a problem, apart from those with older systems.

These are DVD camcorders. Most users will use them as intended. Specifically, they will pop-out the mini-DVD and pop it into their DVD players. Alternatively, they can play the mini-DVD using their computer's DVD player. Having FireWire on this kind of camcorder is casting pearls to swine.
So I guess the rumors are true. Firewire is dead.
