Well, it looks like WinXP won't work on the new Intel Macs. At least not for mere mortals. From Macworld's FAQ on the new Macs:
"One interesting quirk of these new Intel-based Macs is that, unlike the developer test systems released last summer, these systems use Intels Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) instead of the tried-and-true BIOS that classic PCs use. Windows XP doesnt actually support EFI, although the forthcoming Windows Vista will."
I was hoping I could boot into Windows when necessary to run the Win-only software used around my office. That hope may be in vain, at least until MS releases Vista. Whenever that might be. So, apparently, there is no rush for me to get a new Intel Mac. I guess I can keep using my TiBook and save a couple of thousand dollars.

I need some help, I already have a imac g5 at home and was looking to get a apple laptop, would anyone recommend getting the new macbook pro or getting an ibook, mainly a consumer user (e-mail, internet, basic photo use, music). the new macbook pro looks impressive, but honestly am new to the apple experience, but so far very impressed with our imac, just miss the portability.

Given your uses, an iBook sounds like all you need; you can use the iMac at home for anything that requires more power. The iBook is an excellent value; the MacBook is more like a desktop replacement for your iMac as well as a portable, so if you want to keep the iMac, get the iBook. But you might want to hold off a few more weeks, as rumor hazzit that there'll be a new widescreen iBook coming out soon, using Intel chips.
