i was originally deciding whether to buy a powerbook or powermac to mainly run finalcut pro. now that the macbook is out, should i buy that? the only reason i considered the powerbook was the portability factor, which makes it very cool to have the option of editing from anywhere. so now the dilemma is, should i buy a macbook or powermac? is it too early to buy the macbook? should i wait? would finalcut work alot better than the powerbook? what do u guys think?

how do u think it will be performance wise in finalcut when comparing it to the powerbook and powermac? i know the difference between the powerbook and powermac was pretty noticeable, so do u think, performance wise, will the macbook and powermac be pretty close and comparable?

You need to double-check with Apple because you are a Final Cut user. I read (here?) that Final Cut does not yet run under Intel and does not run under the Rosetta translator. In other words Final Cut might not run at all on the new MacBook. You can be sure Final Cut will scream when it's ported to Intel, but until then it might only run on a G4 PowerBook.
Not sure why they lost the FW800 port. My wild guess is that maybe the Intel chip needs more room inside the case and a port had to go?

I also noticed the absence of the S-video port. So I tried to figure out how would one plug the notebook to a CRT TV. I thought about using Apple's DVI to Video adapter, but I don't know if this would work, since the adapter is said (on Apple's website) to work only with PowerMacs and Mac minis. Anyway, I think it's quite weird that Apple didn't mention anything about plugging the Macbook Pro into a TV set.

You know what the MacBook reminds me of? The first G3 tower and the first G4 tower. They were such a "bridge" between old and new that they ended up being the odd models out. A year later, when the REAL new models came out, nobody wanted anything to do with the clunky hybrid.
Remember how we had the Titanium G4 PowerBook, and then the 12" and 17" came out later in the new Aluminum cases? I'll bet that's going to happen again, don't be surprised if later Apple brings out 12" and 17" in a new case designed for Intel with some of the old ports back, and suddenly 15" is behind again.
