This maybe already known, but I decided to post this for anyone who, like me, has had to do a complete re-install/archive and install and had to re-install any additional third party applications.
This applies if you have more than one partition on the Mac's hard drive and you have a version of OS X installed on each.
(In my situation, I had 3 partitons, 2 with versions of OS X on them with additional applications installed on the 3rd partition.)
When the re-install of OS X is sucessful and complete, applications that need to use an installer to be installed need to be re-installed in this fashion.
If you have any applications that reside on the alternate OS X partition that were installed by simply dragging a folder into the OS X boot volume/applications folder, these apps can simply be drag/copied again to the newly installed OS X volume.
The reason for being able to drag/copy OS X apps that are contained within a folder (without the need/use of an installer program) is that these apps are totally "self-contained" within the folder and need no additional software to load into the main OS X boot volume in order to run properly.
OS X apps that need to use an installer usually need to place some items into the OS X main boot volume in order to work properly and usually cannot be moved from the Applications folder located on the main OS X boot volume.
With an app that is "self-contained" within a folder, there is no issues with additional software/kernel extensions, or whatever needing to be installed, found or copied into the main OS X boot volume.
Self-contained apps within a folder can be drag/copied freely to any drive location, drive partition or external drive with no issues and these applications should operate fine without issue.
I did a little experiment and discovered this well after I had gone to the trouble of re-installing every single application on my Mac.
The only issue one may encounter is if an application is corrupt in some way, then the application would have to be reinstalled from scratch or drag/copied from the original disc or disc-image (.dmg) file as just drag copying a corrupt application to a new location will not cure data application corruption issues.
