I forgot Applecare on Mac which would make the warranties equal. But here are some things I noticed, and don't forget, the Dell is a Mobile workstation, not the D810 which is their flagship laptop but I couldn't even get near the same specs in that unit.
1. No Modem by default, has to be added, even though it is free.
2. No WiFi or Bluetooth, they have to be added.
3. They charge almost $800.00 CDN for 2 gig of RAM, Apple charges $360.00. This must be because the Dell default is 512 Meg where the Apple default is 1 gig.
4. I am not sure which video card is better. Nvidia or ATI, my preference has been ATI but there is no option in the Dell.
5. No Dual layer drive option for Dell at all. only 8x single later.

Now after looking at this. I don't see a real huge price issue here. These laptops would be considered in the workstation range, especially when you consider the Core Duo inside. Supposedly, the new Macbook Pro will support Vista when it arrives, or should I say that Vista is supposed to support EFI that the MacBook uses instead of BIOS. Is this a bad thing? Maybe now it is but we want these Laptops to be usable for a few years. The ExpressCard/34 is starting to appear in almost all manufacturers laptops at the high end. Bluetooth can be used with a cell for Fax and Data if required.
I think that Apple with these Laptops were trying to make them compatable for a couple years to come. ExpressCard/34, the Core Duo, and EFI may make them that way. I know this is a transition era and these definately are not the right fit for everyone for reasons found all over these posts. Maybe, just maybe, that is why Apple is still selling the other G5 powerbooks. To give the users a choice until more hardware and native pro apps are available to support it. For me, it is all about testing and trying to figure out how these work. That is why I ordered these with 2 gig of RAM. As soon as you mention the word emulation, more memory is better. At least it will give you a fighting chance.
