Is it advisable to update my Tiger 10.4.3 now to 10.4.4? I hear of the technical issues with it. What about quicktime and itune? I'm afraid that i might screw up newly bought powerbook.

Here's my sad song:
I encountered nothing but disaster.
It all started with updating QT 704. I tried back tracking with the software Apple has on its site for QT 704.
Nothing. Still crashes with nearly all applications.
So then I tried an archieval install from my TIGER installer DVD which worked fine until I updated with 10.4.4 and once again shear disaster. Applications just quiting left and right. I'm sure Apple has a room full of all those crash reports my computer sent.
Sure, I did all the repair permissions, DiskWarrior, and TTPro stuff. Nothing solved the problem.
I did another archieval install and just updated to 10.4.3.
All is fine and I am statying within 10.4.3 and QT 703.
At this point of time I'm not sure what are the benefits of having 10.4.4 unless you buy iLife 06.
If you decide to upgrade to 10.4.4 good luck.

Absolutely no issues here. The key is to make sure your system is in good shape before you uprade. Make sure the disk directory is not damaged, and if you've been experiencing any strange system glitches or problems, it would be a very good idea to find out the cause before updating.

I have updated to 10.4.4 just. Seem like everything is working fine, no significant impact on performance as seen in my daily work. Did verify permission and run macjanitor without problems.
But i'm steering clear off the updates of quicktime and itune just in case if it hurts my OS.

Hi guys,
Any software utilities to recommanded other than disk warrior, techtool pro and macjanitor? Other than macjanitor on my systems, I considering to get disk warrior soon. Because of pricing, I can get one at a time because I'm still a student.

My recommendations:
DiskWarrior, TechToolPro, Coctail and Macaroni are on my system and well worth the monies.
You should note that DiskWarrior is just a one trick pony that can only repair the system directory.
TTPro has many more features.
Macaroni works in the background when your computer is on.
Coctail can safely modify specific system settings plus do the usual repair ( except directory ) manually or by scheduale.
Of course don't forget AppleDiskUtility although it can not repair the system directory.
Please excuse me if you know all this stuff.

No, they're not maintenance utilities, but great for backup. I switched from CCC to SuperDuper due to ONE kernel panice w/ CCC. I just feel a tad more comfortable w/ [SuperDuper]

How about getting techtoolpro instead of getting disk warrior? Heard that TTP had defragment software bundled with it, instead of buying idefrag as separate. I was thinking of getting a firewire HDD to backup with superduper. If things just screw up, i can always get back into a good shape with the backup HDD.
