Actually that's NOT the point! There are two parts to being on the web; 1) making the initial pages and 2) having people actually look at them. What good is a web page going to do anyone if it takes one minute to make - but takes 4-5 minutes to load on the visiting persons browser because the images and the text are over inflated? The way it stands now, iWeb is OK if you don't care if other people actually see your web pages, but if you really want to get visitors (and keep them at your site) then you'd better learn quickly that on the Internet people have a VERY short attention span, and if your pages don't load QUICKLY, then you are just a mouse click away from having your site passed over.
If Apple wants iWeb to be be taken seriously, then they need to stop turning text into images, allow the use for smaller image files (including jpeg and gif) and allow straight forward FTP uploads from products like Transmit. You're talking about novices, and it doesn't get anymore basic than that for GOOD web page authoring. The reason for programs like iWeb are so that novices don't have to remember HTML code, but that doesn't mean that the program itself shouldn't make pages that load quickly, so that people who are actually visiting your site will want to stick around and see your web pages.
