Best Anonymous Surfing for Mac?

I switched over to a Mac after using a PC all my life (a transition I will never regret).
I used to use SwitchProxy for firefox as a way to keep my surfing anonymous.
However, for some reason that plug-in no longer works on my os x firefox system.
Does anyone know the best way or program for anonymous surfing (free or pay for?)
Is it even neccessary?

You could use something like Tor, though I think anonymizing services are, for the most part, for paranoid individuals and not really necessary.
