My iMac has done two odd things recently. Once it would not let me log in. It just stayed in the log-in window as though it was trying to log in, but it couldn't. I turned it off manually and ran Disk Warrior, which rebuilt the directory and the problem was gone. But then when I was trying to log off, the mouse froze and - after checking all connections - I manually turned off the iMac.
It appears to be running fine now, but I decided to run Disk Utility and repair permissions because I haven't done so in a while. After about thirty seconds, it stopped and a popup window appeared with the following message -
"disk utility has lost its connection with the disk management tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch disk utility"
I tried it two more times and it did the same thing.
Otherwise I don't seem to be having any problems, but I'm worried that this could be a symptom of something worse.
Any ideas?
thanks
iMac OSX 10.3.9 1.25GH 768MB RAM

-Hi,
I would try DU again, but run those features after booting up w/ the install disk by holding down the 'C' key. Repair, and then Permissions. Let us know..

I had the same problem and solved it by running the system upgrade even though I had installed the upgrade.

I've been away for a while...
Thanks to all for your input. Azhie's link to the 'DU internal error' thread gave me the answer I needed. I just moved iTunes to my desktop and then I was able to repair permissions.
Thank you!!
