I don't know what happened to the sound on my G3 iMac DV Indigo running OS 9.2.2 - I checked system preference under sound and mute was not checked, I tried trashing the sound preference file in the System Folder and still no sound at all from the headphones or the speakers, so I am out of ideas. I checked the headphone jack itself, looks fine....I tried putting in a headphone, but don't get any sound out of the headphones either. I even rebuilt the desktop and zapped the PRAM using TechTool. Any suggestions? I recently bought this computer from a gentleman who claimed the sound worked fine for him, but he had done a wipe of the hard disk and did a clean install to 9.2.2 ---- I borrowed a friend's "GRIFFIN TECHNOLOGY IMIC2 USB Audio Interface" and got sound out from that to some speakers, but still nothing from the Mac's headphones or the speakers.
I'm at a loss! Thanks for any help!

Yep, just tried that and still no luck....I don't even hear the "gong" sound as the computer starts up. I'm getting the Tiger OS from Apple for my eMac, maybe I'll install it on this iMac, I have enough memory. Can Tiger be used on this machine???? Any tricks to installing it?
Thanks!

-Hi,
Too bad about the sound. I wonder if it did actually work for the guy that sold it to you, or the sound card is bad. Might try tinkering w/ the Extension Mang-->Base and see if there is any conflict. Your G3 should be find to run Tiger, but it would be nice to get your sound fired up. No real tricky install I can think of off hand for the G3.

Yeah.....I've wondered that myself. I hope the sound was working for him. How do I tinker w/ the Extension Mang-->Base to see if there is any conflict??? I think it is a problem from when the previous owner re-installed OS 9.2.2, because I was able to get sound when I borrowed a friend's "Griffin IMIC2 USB Audio Interface" and got sound out from that to some external speakers, but still nothing from the Mac's headphones or Mac's speakers.
I'm at a loss! I will try to load OS Tiger and see if that clears up the problem. I'm still waiting for it to arrive from Apple. Any tricks to installing it??? Should I wipe this computer first?
Thanks for your help!

Here is a little more info to help with the [Extension Manager] .. and it looks like you'll have to update your firmware on your G3 before installing OSX [firmware update] Some older Macs need that, where others don't. You can do a Google search for tons of info on your particular flavor of iMac. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
