I just upgraded my iBook G4 from 10.4.4 to 10.4.5 without incident. My first reaction is very positive. Everything I was doing before seems to work now. My wireless internet connection appears faster and Safari appears to be more responsive.
I upgraded via Software update but Versiontracker.com has the standalone files posted.

Hi
Just fine here. I have to admit that this is probably the smallest x.x.1 update ever...Maybe not.

while not only fixing numerous problems....
using Software Update will get you a machine specific update.
my G4 PB was a 7M update while the DP was almost twice that.
I also suspect some of it was because OSX86 was hacked.

I doubt it. This update was in the works since 10.4.4 was done. The hack just came out yesterday if I remember correctly. There was no time for Apple to put in software to disable the Maxxuss hack.

The update is about 40.6 MB for Intel Macs, so it's much more important in that case. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yikesss..40.xMB for the MacIntels. Both the Macs in my sig were the same: 6.4MB

"The 10.4.5 Update is recommended for all users and includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes for the following applications and technologies:
- iChat video conferencing
- Safari rendering of web pages
- usability of Dashboard and widgets
- viewing of QuickTime streaming media behind a firewall
- printing to some Epson printer models
- iDisk and Portable Home Directory syncing
- time zone and daylight savings for 2006 and 2007
- VPN connections to Cisco servers when using NAT
- compatibility with third party applications and devices
- previous standalone security updates

This could explain it. I've seen printer drivers that are very large in OS X. If the driver was previously missing from the Intel version but available on the PPC version, that could explain the discrepancy.

Gimme a break! A screenshot of OS X running on a PC does NOT a useable combination make. All this will ever be is some hacker's wet dream. Mainstream use will never see the light of day. Heck, there's real money being offered (something like $10K) for the first dual boot Intel Mac to run XP and they haven't done THAT yet either.
