activeX on Mac

I regularely encounter problems with streaming media embedded in a webpage by acitveX controls which looks like typical MS Windows stuff.
Is there any way to access this media in a Mac webbrowser?
Your help will be highly appreciated as really enjoy watching television and listening to radio stations from all over the world. Unfortunately this activeX controls thing is spoiling the experience.
