Hello,
I am going to be getting the new iMac within the week. Needless to say I am new to all this from the PC side of things.
I just wanted to know when I get the iMac it will have iTunes on it already. But I have iTunes on my PC. I don't want to lose what I have d/l from iTunes for far (i.e. music, video, audiobooks etc)
I was at an Apple store yesterday and the rep there told me that I would be able to go through Windows Explorer on my PC, save what I have on iTunes to cd (DVD for video) then when I got the ne iMac iTunes there would find it and the rest would be taken care of.
Problem is, I went into Windows, into Programs folder, iTunes and there are no folders for "music" or the video etc. Sorry for such a long question but I look forward to hearing your replys. Thank you and I look forward to being a Mac user

If you open iTunes on the PC side you should be able to drag the music from the iTunes app to a data cd/dvd and burn or - drag to a usb flash drive.
Even better would be to log into the new mac ( make sure you enable personal file sharing first) and browse to the Mac's music folder and leave open - then drag whatever music you wish from the PC iTunes window to the Mac music folder - should work and no searching the PC to chase down the mp3 and aac files.

Simply move the "iTunes" folder in the "My Music" folder in Windows onto a drive, CD, or simply do a direct network transfer. Drop the iTunes folder into the "/Users/you/Music/" directory on your new mac, overwriting the existing folder, if present. Both the Windows and Mac versions of iTunes use standard xml for the library, so your mac iTunes will include all your songs, audiobooks, videos and playlists from Windows, exactly as they were.
This is all assuming you have the "copy songs to iTunes music folder when added to library" box checked in iTunes preferences in windows. If not, your songs could be all over your system, and your first step should be to use the "consolidate library..." option in iTunes' "advanced" menu to copy all your music into the iTunes directory before moving it to your iMac.

I think you might need to authorize the iTunes in the new iMac first and then make the transfer. I don't have time to recheck my thoughts tonight, but if a problems comes up, authorizing the iTunes in your new iMac might solve the issue. This done I believe by signing in with your account to iTunes Music Store with the new iMac's iTunes.
I was thinking Migration Assitant application found in the Utiliteies folder in Mac OS X; but i recheck and it is a Mac to Mac transfer.
