simple question, I was wondering if you can transfer files(non music files) from a mac ipod to a pc?

Only if the Windows PC has MacDrive or MacOpener installed. Windows doesn't have the built-in capability to read HFS+ (i.e. Mac-formatted) disks. Macs can read FAT32-formatted disks (i.e. Windows), but not NTFS (Windows NT-formatted) disks. If you want to use an iPod with both a Mac and a PC, the best bet is to buy a Mac-formatted iPod and purchase XPlay, MacDrive or MacOpener. Windows iPods are formatted FAT32, and can be read by Windows Me, 2000, and XP (data only on Windows 98 with Firewire), as well as Macs.

Another alternative is to buy a Windows unit and plug it into your Mac, but you run the risk of accidentally starting a "Restore" operation on the Mac that will reformat the iPod as a Mac unit, rendering it unusable to a Windows PC.

thanks , I was looking to buy a firewire harddrive (I'm a design student and transfering photoshop files with zips just doesn't cut it) and I thought the ipod would be nice to have because of the mp3 aspect.
