I've got a PowerBook G4 running Tiger and a Microsoft Natural Elite ergonomic keyboard. When I plugged the keyboard into the 'book's USB port, it worked fine, except that its defaults were to map the "Alt" key to the option function, and the "Windows" key to the command function. That makes sense given the keys' names, but physically the Alt and Windows keys are in the opposite position that Option and Command are.
No problem, I know how to set preferences, and so I can tell System Preferences to switch the mapping of the option and command keys. That works until I take the book on the road or home, at which point I have to switch it back. That gets a little repetitive.
I'd like to make the remapping of keys automatic. Ideal would be a solution where on plugging in the keyboard, the OS recognized it and switch the mapping for me. Next to ideal would a shell script that could do the switch. I'm thinking some kind of series of "defaults write" commands, but I don't know how to find the defaults I want to change...
Any clues? Thanks in advance.

Automatically (or script to) remap keys?

Aha! I didn't think there was any software because there wasn't a CD in the box my keyboard came in. A little more googling and I found Microsoft Intellitype Pro, a free download which does exactly what I want. By default, even.
Thanks for the tip.
