I am looking for a program that changes the file to any file type you want. I know I can just change the extension, but that will not actually change the file. I used to have a program on my Windows computer, but I can't find one for my mac.
Note: Looking for a Freeware program and it could be for OS 9 or X.

There is not, and cannot, be a generic solution for this. I'd be stunned, for example, if you can find a single program that will convert from RTF to HTML and xbm to png and gif to txt (ASCII art, y'know). It really depends entirely on what you're trying to convert to and from.
So....
What are you actually trying to achieve?

Since I have so many files that I do want to change I would like to get any program that could do any two file types.

Well, if you want to keep your tookit compact, this might be a good start:
MacLink Plus

It's worth noting that some graphics and text conversion abilities are available from apps that are part of the stock OS install. Apple's Preview application can do some image conversions, and TextEdit can do some text. They may be sufficient for your needs.

If you've got a lot of graphics and need to do several different kinds of conversions, you should probably get Graphic Converter.

Head to www.versiontracker.com (and bookmark it once you're there) and search for the terms "convert" and "audio." You should get a couple of dozen hits and hopefully one of them will meet your needs.
