I attempted to use the superdrive for the first time to burn a dvd today. I inserted a blank dvd, and it appeared on the desktop as a cdr. Hmmm . . .that's strange, but I thought it was ok. I then proceeded to burn the dvd. I get an error: "Burning the disc failed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code 0x80020000).
Any idea what's wrong?

-Hi,
What steps did you take to prepare the data for burning, ie. iMovie? Are you using a DVD-R for burning? And what type of Mac model, OS, and versions of iLife are you running?

also...
first we are operating under the fact you have a SUPERdrive and not a COMBOdrive.
but be advised, some of the blank DVD's just aren't compatible with the Mac's DVD burner.
I have a Pioneer 117 that was re-flashed to a Pioneer 108. which is what is was before Apple choked it to a lesser being.
it burns Philips DVD R as well as the Verbatum DVD R.
Sony's and Maxell's are iffy at best and usually result in a few coasters out of the batch.
generic brands usually won't run at all.

Hi, I have a 20-inch iMac core duo with superdrive. I was attempting to burn a Memorex dvd+r.
First, I tried using a burn folder and simply copying my photo library to there. That didn't work. Then, I ejected and re-inserted the dvd, and drug my library to the cdr icon on my desktop (remember, it said it was a cdr). I then tried to burn that, and got the same error.
I also repeated the same steps, but with only one or two photos instead of the entire library. I had the same error.
Also, I don't know if this makes any difference or not . . . I tried playing a dvd that I had recorded using my dvd recorder. It was recognized as a blank cdr. I also tried a commercial dvd (one with a theatrical movie). It was recognized correctly. I next tried another dvd from the same package. We had recorded on this one as well. It was recognized as a dvd, but a blank one (I think it may not be finalized, though, so that might explain that one).

Well -T,
You definitely have the [Superdrive] for the job. My guess is to try a different disc as starters, or maybe your Superdrive doesn't like the taste of Memorex.

when you say "burn" are you sure you actually burned it?
many have made wonderful coasters by not "really" burning the disk.
get a new blank.
insert it.
when msg pops up, hit "ignore"
now double click the blank disk on your desktop.
drag what you wish to burn onto it.
now in the top right corner of your finder window that you just dragged everything into, there should be a button that says "Burn"
click it.
when you are all thru, pop the disk out and insert it again.
see if your burn made it.

At this point, I've mentioned so many disks that I don't know which one we're talking about. Anyway, I have not been able to burn any dvd on the iMac. I sucessfully burned a cd yesterday, though. The dvd that I said I recorded was recorded on my dvd recorder attached to my tv. And yes, I'm sure it has something on it, but I did not finalize it because I wanted to add more to it at a later date.

Macnuke is correct, normally the default setting of Apple's burner are set so that you can burn sessions.
If originally your DVD or a CD was properly burned as a session using something like Toast, using the same application again , you should have no problem burning a second session.
