Either I'm doing something wrong or I'm not expecting the results I see.
I'm running a 15in AlPB 1.67GHz 1GB RAM 100GB 7200rpm HD plus a Maxtor 7200rpm FWa drive and a Hitachi 7200rpm FWb drive feeding to a 20in Apple dvi display. I open Final Cut Express and set my scratch disk for the FWb drive. FCE wants to set the default size as 720x480 for DV NTSC.
I import a 228 MB DV clip of a funeral from a movie just as an example.
When trying to run it from the Maxtor FWa drive, sound is good but the video hangs.
I copied the file to my desktop. When trying to run it in FCE from the desktop the audio is good but the video hangs.
I copied it to the FWb drive and it played normally as I would expect with good sound and video.
Either I need to work with files only on the scratch disk or I need FWb speed to make FCE work on my AlPB.
I want to edit this clip into segments, add stills, and create an iPod file to show on a television. I could do (and have done) this in iMovie but I am trying to build skills in FCE.
Would anyone like to do a little mentoring here? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
