I have an mpeg movie which imovie won't allow me to drag into it. I really want to be able to convert this into a QT movie that I can then import into Logic Audio so I can write music to it. I don't know which converter/compressor to download as all the ones I find on google are .exe, ie for pcs. I need a .dmg for my mac. Hmmm.
In desparation can anyone help me?

QT will not export the sound from muxed mpeg files (mpeg-1 or mpeg-2). If your mpeg is an mpeg-1 you can use this freeware to convert both sound and video to other formats, including DV Stream for iMovie and other Apple programs.

If the mpeg is an mpeg-2 you will need to have the Apple mpeg2playbackcomponent plus StreamClip. The mpeg2 component is available from the Apple Store for $20 US. There is also a FAQ available for it at this link:
