Hi there.
I sometimes get correspondences from my cousins to watch some Windoze videos. Unforunately, it's all broadcast/formatted on a webpage geared towards Windoze Media. I was wondering, what software/plugins, etc. do I need to install top read such files (for example, those ".asx" or ".asxp" files)? I know there's "Flip4Mac" but, if it works as an option, how do I configure it to read the various Windoze videos formats. I'd also like to know, in addition to Flip4Mac, what else is there as well.

I had a similar problem recently and someone pointed me to VLC video reader. It was free and works on some of the files that my copy of WMV doesn't. Just the other day, I had to switch prefs back to WMV because VLC couldn't read a .wmv properly.
VLC was available on VersionTracker.
Seems like you need several options in your toolbox. Bob.

Hi
Can you actually get VLC to work within a web site? I was trying to figure out a way on how to download (?)an embedded(?) WMV to try VLC on it but that didn't go so well. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Even with WMP installed, it didn't work so well for me either. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif M$ crap.

-Hi,
Can you leave one of the websites behind for members to test drive? Do you have any problems viewing cnn.com video coverage? Sometimes if you get an error while trying to view M$-WMP you can go to the menu, and OPEN URL to force a new window for it to play, but not always. WMP uses very low, by default, bitrate streaming which can cause an error, and no way to adjust it but to force a new window and trick it.
I have the same issue as -MacCheetah, and can't force some of the embedded WMP to use other video players, ie. VLC when its embedded.
[Edit] using cable here...whats at your end?

Actually, in my last attempted use of VLC, I was trying to watch a .wmv file sent with an email. Sometime before, I had trouble watching another file, probably from email also, when the VLC idea came to light. So, I haven't tried VLC with an website embedded file. As mentioned, I had to switch back to media player to get the .wmv file to play, where, before, media player didn't work but VLC did. So, I keep both around.
Flip4Mac gets comments, but, I didn't want to pay for something I'd only use rarely.
Bob.
