Ick.
I like many out there do not know what they were thinking when they decided on "Wii". Hopefully Nintendo is having a late April Fool's joke on everyone prior to E3! Sheesh, give me a model number over that name any day.

I've read about this elsewhere, this is the first place that had a pronunciation key for the name, and even so, I still pronounce it "why". I'm sure I'll not be the only one. I don't think this name was completely tested and market researched. It may even eventually get it's own spot on www.engrish.com

And people didn't like the name "MacBook". /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Seriously, if it has good games, they'll get my money.

That name is SO BAD, it's great!
Gaming consoles bore me to tears, but the name Wii is so awful, I'm actually paying a little bit of attention to the product.
Mission accomplished.

"Why" is being kind; I saw it as "Whi" (like "with" without the 't'). This is as lame a name as ViiV (which looks like it should sound like the nickname for Vivian). Doesn't anyone do market research anymore?

I'd rather take a wii over a PS3. :P
(I'm sure someone already thought of that, but hey...)

Here in England, 'wee' means the same as the american word 'pee'.
This is going to be hilarious for kids in the UK.
"Your console is wee".
I'm going for a quick wee. Bye.

The problem is in making up a product name that isn't already legally taken by somebody so you can trademark it exclusively throughout the world. Doing that is much harder than it looks. Of course you can think of a better name, but after your legal team goes through your list you end up feeling like the South Park team did when they would come up with plot idea after plot idea but their other staff member would keep saying "Simpsons already did it." That is probably why we get so many terrible product names now like MacBook and Vista and non-words like Wii.

Me too. Why oh wii would they do such a thing? You know if the fans all insist on pronouncing it "Why", there won't be much Nintendo can do about it... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm quite sure that "Wii" is the plural of "Wius"

"O WIILY?"
At least the bomb to be dropped at E3 will overshadow this.
