In reply to:

Apple's iChat AV software ordinarily only works with FireWire-based webcams

Isn't the built-in iSight on new Macs a USB device?

Good point, Mr. Burnsthis software would (presumably/under normal circumstances) only be applicable to Mac mini systems, as the other Intel-based offerings (iMac and MacBook Pro) both come with integrated iSight cameras.
But regardless, I'm happy to see the developer supporting Apple's hardware transition and can find no fault with making the app Universal. Thanks, and well done! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just because iChatUSBCam is Universal doesn't mean it can only be used on Intel-based Macs, so its capabilities are still applicable for a wide variety of machines besides new iMacs, MacBook Pros and Mac minis. But it also lets you select different sources, so you could chat using one of several different USB-based webcams, for example. I'm having trouble coming up with some practical applications thereof, but I'm sure they're out there.

Do you know if the iChatUSBCam drivers will allow you to use a USB cam with things like PhotoBooth?
Does the driver basically make the Mac use a USB cam the same as an iSight, as in system wide?
(I've been to iChatUSBCam's site and they don't mention anything other than iChatAV, at least that I could find.)

iChat AV requires an iSight and needs the help of iChatUSBCam to use other cameras. However, most AV programs don't have this requirement. In other words, Photo Booth and other AV apps will work with a USB camera like the IceCam without any help.
