Has anyone experienced trouble with trying to use HP d145 mulitfunction or a HP750 multi function machine with 0s9.2.2 on a powerbook G3, 512 ram.
Three times I have tried to get a new printer /Mulit machine to work with my PB. And three times the color printing is slower than it was with my dot matrix printer printing in graphics mode with my 8088 macine, (old school reference). images/icons/wink.gif
Any suggestions on other machine ??
solutions.
How about the Brother MFC-5100??
Thanks for your help

In general, "all in one" devices seem to cause many Mac users a considerable amount of grief - probably because of the driver complexity required to support all those functions. Could you not consider buying a basic inkjet printer, and a separate scanner?

I do not recommend the HP MFP. The drivers/software from HP is problematic at best (in OS X) and almost non-functional in OS 9.x. I have a HP G85 MFP. The unit works well with my Windows machines but is atrocious with my Macs.

The bad experience continues with even the latest version of the HP driver/software.

My work around on the Mac running OS 9 is that I turn on the extension/startup files just to print or scan or whatever, then turn them off. Alternately I switch over to OS X or windows to do the job. In OS X there is a software called Gimp Print which does a much better job at printing than the HP software, but it's just for printing.

Don't have info on other MFP. For my photo printing needs I recently bought an Epson.

I have a HP g85, and after upgrading to 10.2.2 the software started hogging the processor, causing my system to slow down to a crawl (literally). I reformatted the drive back to 10.2.1. Now I can use the unit but cannot accept the update until HP releases their patch, of course then Apple will release another update, and then I will have to wait, and so on and so on and so on.

If I didnt need the FAX function I would sell it and buy a separate scanner (I have enough printers).

Sounds like I may have to go with different machines but I was hoping that I could get them all in one, (what a concept Steve), because I will be using on a working mobile office truck situation. We do not have a lot of room. Alas, Bill gates becons once again....... images/icons/frown.gif

petertmacworld,
Before I bought the HP g85, I had a HP K80 (currently $199.00 directly from HP) it did not have a flatbed scanner, it was sheet fed like a traditional FAX machine, but it had the most awesome software for the FAX feature, virtual cover letters, faxing from you Outlook Express address book, etc, but it is Windows only. It also had a 33.3 modem that sent faxes lighting fast, I almost hated selling it, but I wanted something Mac compatible, maybe that was a mistake.
