The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) asked a U.S. judge on Friday to extend parts of an antitrust order for Microsoft for at least two years. more

I'm not sure I understand... So Microsoft and the judge agree that Microsoft can continue to not meet its obligations for two more years?
Wow! Now that's a strong statement! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I find the judgement a little sad. Heavy fines should have been imposed for such an obvious end-run-around.
I find it laughable that even Mirco$ofts documentation contains bugs!

That's what happens when you wait until the program is all written to write the documentation. By that time many things are forgotten. Just making the changes that they say they plan to document as the program is written.
It seems that in Programming 101you are taught to document as you write.

Oh no! The code is self-documenting. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's how I was taught. Then when you find bugs/logic issues, you have an easy place to start looking. I wonder if this is the reason why Win XP has so many issues?

Hmmm...they will release the bug free docs for WinXP based products in about 2 years...just about the time frame for major adoption of Vista. Then they can start all over again.

There's one very good reason for that. I don't want to go all political here, but...
The reason is Bush. GW only has two more years left. Then once he's out, the DOJ, depending upon who takes his place, might be able to go back after the worlds most corrupt and largest monopoly, MS.
He's the one that told his crony Don Rumsfeld to get the DOJ to lay off of MS when he took office. Once he's out, we might see this start all over again.

I'm certain that GW personally got the DOJ off of MS's back when he came into office. Several states continued litigation, but all fell into line after a while, which seems to be what happens under this administration. Not with us than against us and all...

I'm strongly inclined to believe what you say, but I have yet to read any convincing journalism that proves individual DOJ attorneys caved under White House pressure. It was probably more a shifting of resources -- equally onerous, no doubt, but without the smoking gun of the White House telling their attorneys to "throw the match."
Then again, I could be wrong. Nothing would surprise me about this Administration's deep corruption. It's a bottomless pit of avarice.
