I'm trying to streamline my mail and I have a few frustrations... First off, does anyone know how to get the column headings in Apple Mail to stop jumping back to some preset? I don't see anything in preferences.
I've got a couple of functional Smart Mailboxes... but really what I need is a logical OR in one line. That way I could still have the setting of ALL so that I can have multiple criterion, but I can leave the final one as "Message is not in a Mailbox" As it is I have to either create one smart mailbox per criteron (which kindof defeats the purpose) or I have to turn on the Mailbox heading every time and sort by that.
Thanks,
Z

Smart Mailbox functionality...

I suppose the question to ask is why it's imperative that a given message only be in one (smart) mailbox. You have to keep in mind that the smart mailbox isn't really imposing any organization on your mail collection. It's all still accumulating wherever the normal mail rules have put it. A smart mailbox is just a search query that's been stored for later/recurring use. So you can have "I want everything about the Schumaker project" and "I want everything from Lisa" and a message Lisa sent you about the Schumaker project will be "in" both mailboxes.

What I'm saying is that in order to have a Smart Mailbox that would help me, I need the logic of A or B or C and D where D is the condition that the email is not already in a mailbox. This allows me to quickly see which ones are already sorted. Right now it seems like I can only do all "or" or all "and" that seems like a rather incomplete implementation. Sure I could create a dozen Smart mailboxes but what's the point, I can just sort the regular Inbox and do that.
What about that other question... any idea why my column headings are volitile?
Thanks,
