This pretty much sucks. You HAVE to buy the top end model to get it in black. What were they thinking??? I love it that it comes in black but I don't want to drop $1,500.00 on a new system. Apple has done it again, handed us some candy and punched us in the stomach at the same time.
Thanks for nothing ...

And, like the Mini, there has been a price bump. Not surprising since the new MacBook has many new features...

This leaves the Power Mac G5 as the only remaining PowerPC machine. I wonder when that makes the transition???

Isn't that the same speed as the MacBook Pro?
What do they means by "a 13.3-inch glossy widescreen display thats 79% brighter with 30% more viewing area than the iBook before it"? Which iBook before it?
It's got audio-in, and FireWire, but it's not as pretty as the MBP: the infra-red sensor's too far to the right, and the things which stop the screen bumping on the keyboard look totally uninspired.

In terms of pixels, both.

It's what was expected - though the screen resolution shows the rumour sites were FOS - but it is heavier than my 12" AlBook. That's not exactly improvement for a sub-notebook. Waiting to see what the Civ 4 specs are before getting upset about Intel graphics (though 64MB is on the low side).
While most of the boxes I was looking for can be ticked, somehow after all the sepculation it isn't as sexy as I was hoping for. I may get one anyway, but I'm not rushing to the Apple Store today. An aluminium-clad thin 13" widescreen MacBook (Pro or otherwise) with a 128MB graphics card would have got my purchase today.

While I think you're being a little over the top, $200 for 20 GB and black coloring seems a little foolish. People will still buy it, but Apple has clearly recognized the overwhelming consumer demand for black over white.
EDIT: Furthermore, the 80 GB drive is a $50 option for the white top end MacBook. That's a whopping $150 for coloring only. Boo.

The deal with the devil also has a downside and here it is in the form of the oh so lovely Intel Graphics chipset. So I wonder how much RAM this one is going to gobble up?

Hmmm, a can of black spray paint is pretty cheap.

Buy or do not buy, but please quit the whining. There is more important stuff going on in the World than whether the low end MacBook comes in black.

Glossy screen? I hope not like Dell and all the rest of them. I HATE those - iiiikes. They look fine in a dark room, but you might as well look at a rearview mirror. I don't know why people put up with this crap.
That pretty much rules out the MacBook for me.
