Okay so heres the dealio.
17in g4 laptop 1.5ghz 1gig mem
os x 10.4.6
two ipods shuffle and 3rd gen
idisk
so heres the deal, im relatively clueless so cut some slack if i am not making complete sense but here are the problems.
computer thinks ipod shuffle is 3rd gen, others dont, restored on other computer, and mine still thinks its a 3rd gen, including the latest ipod updater i had and itunes. only thing that thinks its a shuffle is the finder, where it gives the shuffle icon on the desktop.
Also, idisk isnt working. the icon apears when loaded but nothing is inside accept for strange ghosts of the files inside that never load. it works on other comps.
Now ive been trying to redownload some utilities, like the ipod shuffle and itunes to reinstall.
but the downloads wont "mount" screwed with them in disk utility and it just will not mount them. disk utility veryified the .dmg files.
i feel like all these issues are intertwined, and dont know what to do.
any help would be super appreaciated, and if i left any important facts out feel free to ask....

What I see is during the update of the Shuffle is the Shuffle icon shows up in the Desktop(or Finder) for the time it updates and seemingly unmounts there. The shuffle is actually still mounted at the iTunes Source column unless you unplug it. The iTunes window should automatically open and you would see the Shuffle there. I think it is just an Apple preferences where it shows the ipod show up mounted.
For the other stuff, I'll keep my wild guesses to myself.
