Don't know if anyone else might be interested, but I thought I'd
share anyway.
Two companies I have recently stopped doing business with are:
Sprint for my cell phone service
Chase for a credit card (the Amazon.com visa card)
Why?
Neither company is fully supporting Macintosh based browsers.

The sprint site is slowly breaking - bill pay is the most broken
at this time.
I could no longer log into my account at chase.com/amazon.

I know that Sprint has an official policy to only test against
Internet Explorer. I found it fascinating that the Sprint tech
support people thought that Internet Explorer was still a viable
option for MacOSX and attempted to blame me for the problems I
was having with their site because I was not using IE.
Fortunately, my contract period was near its end when I fully
realized why I was having trouble with their website.
I'm not sure about Chase, but I was given the same impression
considering the tech support person was aware of the issue but
was unaware of anything anyone was going to do about it even
after knowing about the issue for several months. I have
complained directly to Amazon.com as well...perhaps they will
be willing to find another card company willing to do an
amazon.com credit card.

I have had nothing but good luck with Chase -- they even helped me set up my accounts for direct download into Quicken for Mac. Don't know if your problem is because of Amazon or not, but my two accounts (both of which were bought from sombody else by Chase)work great with the mac.
Sorry your experience is more frustrating.

My experience was confirmed with their tech support who were well aware of the issues and stated that their site does not currently function with Safari or Firefox.

I log in to www.chase.com using Firefox all the time. I've never had a problem, although I no longer pay my bill via the chase website (I just pay all my bills through my bank's online bill pay system).
Does the Amazon card have it's own web site different from chase.com?

I run Sprint with Firefox.
and actually use it for almost all of my online financial stuff.
and never have a problem with it.
i leave Safari for all the other junk which is 98% of my browsing.

Well, this is straight from the Sprint technical support staff:
-----
Please be advised, our Web site only supports Microsoft
Internet Explorer. It does not support browsers such
as Firefox or Safari.
-----
If it does any good, the tracking number for this comment by them was NT20060422_0000013185.
And, yes, it mostly works for me as well, but the one time bill pay pages are do not look right. Basically, I don't want to be around when it breaks completely and am getting out now because it will break eventually since their official policy is to only support IE.

I believe this is why a couple of people have said that they can use the chase.com site without any troubles. The url I use for the amazon.com visa card is http://chase.com/amazon which does have a different looking home page then http://chase.com

Here's a reply from the Amazon.com support staff apparently confirming that they are aware of the problem as well.
-----
I am sorry to know that you have cancelled the Amazon Visa Card as
Chase has removed the support for Macintosh based browsers. I
sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused in this regard.

This reminds me of a letter in one of the UK Mac magazines a few years back. I won't mention the name of the bank because they may have become more Mac-friendly since.
I can't find the mag so this is from memory. According to the letter writer, when he logged on to his bank using Safari he was confronted by a notice which read something like this:
You're using a Mac, idiot! Oh well, I suppose you better contact our help line it's xxxx
    [/list]
As I recall, he changed his bank. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Both of those Chase sites work fine for me, no problem with Chase/Amazon ever, still using Safari.

being you reminded me my bill was due for both Sprint PCS and Sprint long distance, i just used Firefox to pay both bills with the one time bill pay as i always do.
and the pages look the same on my daughters WinXP book.
Firefox flew threw the pages and properly rendered all aspects.
don't know where you got your info, but it is wrong.
just as your browser must be.
if my Firefox on my Mac looks exactly like IE on XP sitting side by side ( with the exception of screen size) then I have zero problems with the site.
I think your system isn't right cause it all works here.

Well, if you had the time and felt like it, it may be worth giving them a call (since you apparently have the same account I did with them) and asking them directly if they are aware of any problems using their credit card site (http://chase.com/amazon) with Firefox or Safari. I would be interested to learn what they had to say.
In any case, I hope their site continues to work for you. It no longer did for me and they were unable to provide any workable solutions. I couldn't even speak to someone familiar with Macintosh browsers in their website tech department.

Like I said, I spoke many times with various people at Sprint and they all said the same thing...we only officially support IE. I can easily provide you with more sprint ticket ID numbers which you may be able to use to get the same information I did - or, you can ask them yourself if they officially support anything other then IE. I would be interested in what they would tell you.

It's not about whether the site does display or not in Safari or Firefox, it's about the fact that the company doesn't care. They're trying to enforce their browser choice on their customers, rudely.
Are there reasons for publishing websites which don't comply with whatever standards are accepted at the time?
