I just bought an iBook 500 with no Airport card and have been told that I can get an Airport base station and remove the card from it and put it into the iBook so that I can take the computer to Starbucks or whatever and get on the internet. Any info on this is very appreciated. Also i have seen USB wireless adaptors for sale. Does anyone know how well they work? Again the intent is for connecting to a wi-fi hotspot. The iBook is G3, 128 M RAM, 10 G HD, OS 10.1something.
Thanks

I don't know about the Airport Base Station thing. In any case, it would have to be an old base station, as your iBook is only capable of using 802.11b airport cards (No "Extreme"), which Apple no longer sells.
You could buy an original Apple Airport card on eBay. (this one for instance).
MacWireless also sells new-in-box original airport cards, but they cost a staggering $200.

Resellers are making a killing on these old airport cards. When Apple announced that they were discontinuing them, tons of people went out and just bought as many as they could.
That said, if you want a card for less than the going rate and don't might waiting a few weeks, I believe my old G4 Tower still has its AirPort card. I'd be happy to let it go for, say, $50. You'd have to wait until I get home on July 2nd though.
