hello:
i realize that it's very easy to change hard drives on the macbook. my question is whether it's similarly easy where the macbook pro is concerned?
any link to a video or written instructions will be appreciated.

Underlying structural elements are unlikely to change this quickly, which is what would be required for an internal reorganization of components but no one really can be sure about the next versions; from historical perspective, MB is the first machine where Apple has deliberately made changing a hard drive this easy. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
[The only other PB where hard drive swap was a 5-10 minute job was a Pismo but that was due to an adaptation of a short cut where the RAM or the processor module were not touched and the drive was carefully lifted out after tilting it a little.]
Some of the most tedious ones are iBooks and 12" PB... I have known at lease one person who started with the intention of changing an Apple Combo drive to a DVD-R/W and gave up after he reached the stage where hard drive could be changed because to get to the optical drive one has to completely disassemble the entire machine. He became concerned that he might not be able to keep track of all the little screws and flex cables. I had suggested that he should make quick drawings or take a lot of photos, which he didn't do. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just swapped out my 5400 rpm to a new 7200 rpm on my MB Pro...The process was a piece of cake...Took about an hour, but I took my time. Used the ifixit link for the process. The only thing I would recommend, to make the process easier, and to prevent damaging the fragile ribbon cables...Is to NOT disconnect the track-pad cable and to NOT disconnect the hard drive cable where it plugs into the logic board. There is plenty of slack to lean the upper case cover against your screen, and there is plenty of slack to remove the hard drive and swap it. Hope this helps everyone out.
