From my Powerbook (G4, running 10.4.6) I connected to my Mac Mini (10.4.6 also) via Airport and mounted an external hard disk connected to the Mac Mini.
I then selected a group of files in a finder window and used the delete icon (red circle with crossbar) in the tool bar of the finder window to delete the files.
The "moving files to trash" progress bar came up and, about the time it finished, I realized I had made a big mistake. I need these files after all but where are they and how can I get to them? I cannot find them in the trash (or elsewhere) on either machine. Any help appreciated.

Then I'm afraid they are probably lost forever -- when you delete items on a remote machine, they are deleted immediately, not placed in the trash. You might try a file undeleter (I know there are some out there, but I don't know any names) on the PowerBook and see what can be found.
