Hi Chris,
I'm with HandyMac. I have been using Appleworks & Clarisworks in all their configuations since they came out (I've been an Apple Fan since the AppleII days). I have taught both of those and the Microsoft suite on both Mac and PC for a number of years. Nothing is as useful as Appleworks for most users! In writing manuals the ease of switching between draw and word modes to create the sidebars for screen shots is unbeatable. The database is easy to understand except when one is concating fields and reducing spaces (that part needs work). I was very sorry to see them leave macros behind in version 6.
It seems that it is only a matter of time before Appleworks will not run on Macs - just as we lost all the Classic programs.
It is my belief that Microsoft made a deal about Appleworks when they bailed the company out and Bill Gates bought into Apple because Apple has been pushing Microsoft Office ever since.
Question for the bloggere etc.: Has anyone tried to buy the program from Apple to develop it further? Apple split it off once, so why not again? I'm sure there is a ready market in the Macintosh community for a new version of Appleworks.
